“Man is the only critter who feels the need to label things as flowers or weeds.” – Unknown

The only thing that is manipulated in is the first tomato in the mirror but it was actually shot as a reflection and a skewer I took out from the last photo of the tomato because I needed to keep it upright.

Clever Conceptual Photo Manipulations That Tell a Story - PSDtutsplus
"Sometimes you might have the wrong perception about yourself and that might stress you out. This is a great example that shows how you can use perfectly ordinary objects to make a powerful message." :aww:

Shadowness - Daily Inspiration #35

This is my MINOR project I did for my BFA degree in Graphic Design called human INSIDE. Currently on exhibit in Barbados. All photos and concepts are original and done by myself.

The set up is an installation piece, where the images are suspended one after the other, it is meant to be an interactive campaign where people walk through, observe and see 7 phases of discrimination unfolding. To the back of the images are quotes which conveys the message of the each photo essay. The images presented in the series are meant to be interpreted personally and ambiguously. There is a video at the end which shows the transitions from one image to the other to relate the story.

Please share it and spread the message of anti-discrimination and let others know the ugliness of discrimination, we can all work together and put an end to this!

Series

Concept
human INSIDE is an anti-discrimination campaign which aims to raise awareness of discrimination and hopefully reduce discrimination as much as possible.

Instead of using people, inanimate objects became the subjects of the photo essays. Each essay tells a story that relates to results of discrimination or how it unfolds.

Wow, I love your series. It really brings into question the values of our society and what we really think of ourselves and each other. Hopefully these will make more people think before they act or judge.

I loved the use of the tomato for this. It works so well to portray the fragility an individual's self-esteem has.

hmm... as a young male I express my utter surprise... haven't ever seen a guy doing such thing...

on the other hand - if one was doing such stuff - he'd most likely hide it even better than a woman would...

you might be right. however I still think that it's mainly women's problem... most likely stemming from such reasons as shown here: [link]

I can tell you from my experience and from people I know that this is just as big of an issue with men as it is with women. It is generally assumed that men don't feel they have to improve themselves to look or feel better for others as women do, but it's all around if you look hard enough. My roommate of three years now, also a guy has shown this quite a bit lately. It's rather sad, to be quite honest, but that's society today for ya... :(

That video you linked though says a lot too... :o

well... alright... that reminds me of my last year roommate... devoted to the temple of St Men's Health...

maybe I just want to believe that we're not in minority? that average blokes like me, with natural "I kind of not look that bad" approach, are not in desperate retreat just yet...

yeah it does... shocking... there were several of these Dove short movies on youTube but I can't seem to find them any more...

I would love to be able to live in a world in which expectations of perfection in terms of looks and body type weren't the norm. Makes me sad and a bit angry every time I talk to someone and they think they're ugly or not good-looking enough for someone else... What ever happened to natural beauty? :(

I've seen some similar movies before that had the same concept in them, though it wasn't quite as involved on the Photoshop end... As bad as it sounds, I had to laugh when I watched the artist stretch and round the neck of that model. Even worse, I didn't think it looked abnormal at all once I saw the results...

The thing is - it all depends on us. How we perceive each other. I mean - the world isn't - and quite frankly - most likely will never be perfect :D We can, though, cut out from it a world of our own. The part of the larger universe, which would live more according to our liking. What I am talking about here is a group of our friends and relatives. A group within which the world you're talking about is a norm.

I guess that this is what FaMz is tryin to achieve, isn't it FaMz? ;)

I know what you mean. I've found it utterly weird... that it kind of worked for me, looking at the final effect. Too naturally.

So true. That's why when I meet or get to know people who are that critical of themselves I try to help them see that it really doesn't matter what others think about them. Perfection isn't just what you see in ads and magazines... Moreover, perfection is boring, variation is everything. A little reading on Darwin's theory for example could easily explain that being different is a good thing. :)

I'm saying some guys do this in a sense that I am most certain they look at themselves and wish they could have more muscles (this is not based on research by any means, though I have watched tv shows and saw guys who were more conscious about certain things), or weigh more, or look more handsome...and they are guys who do watch their weight and their appearance. I guess women are more open and more emotional about this than guys are.

lol and you mentioned the exact point I was about to make

I think women are more affected by it. I have seen that video before, and I must say that is one powerful video!

yeah - that we do... but I haven't ever thought that it could harm us in any way... but on a second thought... it actually might. not as directly as in girls' case, where it gets emotional pretty quickly. but rather through constant undermining of our prides... which might actually lead to a well hidden long standing problem...

which point was it?

nice one - true. I've seen it like 10 times already and it never ceases to amaze me. I mean - ok - I've done such things even myself... but to see others photoshop an average girl into a classy, top-of-the-shelf lass is just... weird.

it could be

the one where you said that a guy would most likely hide than a female would

I have too, but its quite a shocker indeed
