Love is Faceless

Description

This one is dedicated to all my friends here

I took this when I was coming up with conceptual pieces for 'Love is a four letter concept contest'

These were two of the ideas I also tried:
I Heart You and Love Hung

Not really in the mood for saying so much about this piece, since I think it should at least explain itself. The concept basically is to show that love doesn't have any faces, it's in the form of any shape and sizes, anything. For once I'm stuck at deciding which one I like more, the simpler one on the right, or the reflection one. which one do you prefer?

but I'm not satisfied with portraying the concept, I think I need another approach or something, that's why I ended up submitting the two above first before this one.

I used a reflector made of foil to get the light to bounce (first time I ever tried that), my small lamp is small :O and er stuck the paper with the hearts upside down and to the back of the applicators which was stuck to a sheet to get the reflection. The one on the right, the paper with the hearts is actually covered with perspex to prevent smudging. I so love to use my bed as my mini studio :giggle:

Retouched a bit of the stray bristles, minor selective colouring to get the colours to pop like they were.

I don't prefer one picture over the other. I think they work most effectively side by side. The first thing I do when I look at a picture is full-view it to see all the details.

In full-view, the concept of love not needing a straight-up definition is shown beautifully by the image on the left where colour and shape fade into softness but still have a sense of cohesion.

In small view, the two images actually look a lot more similar than they do when viewed at full size. To my caffeine-addled mind this suggests that while no two stories of love are identical, when viewed as part of a wider scene everyone's experiences of love have more in common that we realise.
